Nochebuena: A Christmas Spectacular

Gifts are not usually given at this time, but this is changing with increasing cultural influence from the USA. (Santa Claus has started coming to Mexico!) In this concert, Ballet Folklórico de Los Angeles and Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar embrace some of the traditions that people in Mexico celebrate during Christmas time, but keep in mind that many of these customs and their celebrations vary region to region. Many of them are also changing with the influence of other cultures (most notably that of the United States).

Mariachi Garibaldi enjoys a professional partnership with Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles and together they have entertained thousands of people at sold out venues. Both collaborated with Mitú Network to recreate Disney’s Beauty and the Beast’s “Tale As Old As Time” which catapulted their professional careers and became a viral video with over 15 million views.

Ofrenda es un programa de El Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles y el Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar que rinde tributo a quienes ya no están con nosotros. Una propuesta escénica de danza y música que toma como poética de inspiración las celebraciones del pueblo mexicano referentes al día de muertos.

El sincretismo y la tradición que se vive en México los días primero y dos de noviembre son un referente internacional que permite apreciar una extensa cantidad de actividades de carácter popular centradas en la muerte, danza, música, artes plásticas, ofrendas y celebraciones forman parte del contexto festivo para conmemorar a sus difuntos.

Ofrenda es un espectáculo cautivador y nostálgico para honrar la memoria de grandes artistas musicales como Juan Gabriel, Pedro Infante, José Alfredo Jiménez y Selena. Under the direction of Jimmy “El Pollo” Cuéllar, son of Jaime Cuéllar, Mariachi Garibaldi is considered one of the leading Mariachi ensembles regularly called upon to share the stage with some of Mexico’s most beloved performers such as The Aguilar Family: Pepe, Angela and Leonardo, Juan Gabriel, Alejandro Fernandez, Pedro Fernandez, Espinoza Paz, Paquita del Barrio, Aida Cuevas, Ana Barbara, Steeven Sandoval, Graciela Beltran, Maria Elena Beltran, Yolanda del Rio, Pablo Montero, Mercedes Castro, Humberto Herrera, Beatriz Adriana, Empress Of, and Armenian pop star Lilit Hovhannisyan. Most recently, Mariachi Garibaldi were featured performers for Camila Cabello’s Tiny Desk concert performing “La Buena Vida,” truly displaying that mariachi music transcends across all platforms. Their elevated musicianship has also opened invitations to perform on prestigious stages to sold-out crowds, such as the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Teatro Degollado, Valley Performing Arts Center, The John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Bakersfield Fox Theatre, The Chandler Center for the Arts, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, Tempe Center for the Arts and The Gallo Center for the Arts.

Come party with us as we honor Mexican Independence Day with an exciting concert! The ASU Symphony Orchestra will perform pieces by Gabriela Ortiz, José Pablo Moncayo, and Silvestre Revueltas, to name a few. With plenty of surprises and stellar guests aligned, we will be collaborating with the ASU Mariachi ensemble led by Scott Glasser, as well as Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar as special guests of honor.

From traditional to contemporary, educational to entertaining, this festival will showcase the dance group Las Angelitas Unidas y Los Rayos del Sol, as well as a special performance by Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cueller. Founded in 1994 by Jaime Cuellar, this ensemble of 8-12 mariachi musicians has delighted audiences with their dynamic musicianship and live sound. It’s a captivating performance!
